Blinded by Ego: A Search for Meaning

Drama  Sweden

Ego is a 2013 French film directed by Lisa Azuelos. The movie follows Sebastian Silverberg, a self-centered and egotistical man who is obsessed with his appearance and partying. He is a successful fashion photographer who lives a luxurious lifestyle and looks down on others who do not meet his standards.

One day, while driving to a shoot, Sebastian gets into a car accident that leaves him blind. He finds himself unable to do the things he once took for granted and his world begins to crumble. His girlfriend leaves him, his friends abandon him and his career is at risk. Left to fend for himself, Sebastian begins to question the meaning of his existence and tries to find a new purpose in life.

He meets a young man named Nathalie who becomes his guide and helps him navigate his new life. Nathalie is the opposite of Sebastian - kind, caring and selfless. Through her kindness, Sebastian learns that there is more to life than just appearances and material possessions.

As Sebastian's eyesight slowly begins to return, he realizes that he has been given a second chance at life and vows to use it wisely. He reconciles with his estranged father, who he had a rocky relationship with, and rediscovers his passion for photography, but with a newfound perspective.

Ego is a powerful movie that explores the universal theme of self-discovery and personal growth. The film shows that sometimes, it takes losing everything to gain a new perspective on life and to find true happiness. It also highlights the importance of kindness, empathy and compassion in a world that often values material possessions above all else.
