Edge of Sanity is a British horror film that was released in 1989 and directed by Gérard Kikoïne. The movie stars Anthony Perkins as Dr. Henry Jekyll and his alter-ego, Jack Hyde. Jekyll is a brilliant scientist who has become addicted to cocaine, which fuels his experiments to the point that he becomes unhinged.
As Jack Hyde, Jekyll prowls the seedy underworld of Victorian London, preying on prostitutes, opium-eaters, and anyone else he can find. The police are powerless to stop him, and Jekyll seems to have nothing to lose except his sanity.
The film is loosely based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic horror story, "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." However, Edge of Sanity takes a more graphic approach, with plenty of violence, gore, and sexual content.
The movie was not well-received by critics, who criticized its gratuitous violence and lack of coherence. However, it has become something of a cult classic among horror fans, due in large part to Perkins' performance as the demented Jack Hyde.
