The woman's name is Sheila Morris, and her sister Diana had been working as a photojournalist in New Guinea when she went missing. Sheila is determined to find her sister and sets out on a dangerous journey through the dense and treacherous jungles of the island.
She enlists the help of a rugged and cynical American expatriate named Mark, who serves as her guide and protector. Along the way, they encounter a bizarre cult led by a charismatic but deranged leader named Jonas, who believes that consuming the flesh of their enemies will grant them supernatural powers.
Sheila and Mark also have to contend with a tribe of cannibal natives, who have been terrorizing the surrounding villages and are now hunting them as well. As they delve deeper into the jungle, they discover more about the sinister forces at work on the island and the horrifying fate that may have befallen Diana.
