Each Dawn I Die is a 1939 American crime drama film directed by William Keighley and starring James Cagney and George Raft. Cagney plays Frank Ross, an investigative reporter who is locked up in prison after being set up by corrupt District Attorney Mark Brady (played by Raft). Brady is secretly involved with organized crime and is running for governor, so he sees Ross as a threat to his political ambitions.
In prison, Ross befriends a hardened criminal named Stacey (played by George Bancroft) and together they hatch a plan to expose Brady's corruption. Ross also becomes involved in a prison break and must fight to clear his name and bring Brady to justice.
The film is notable for its themes of corruption, political ambition, and the power of the press. Cagney delivers a dynamic performance as the determined and resourceful Ross, while Raft is suitably menacing as the conniving Brady.
