Duel at Diablo is a 1966 Western film directed by Ralph Nelson. The film stars James Garner as Jess Remsberg, an experienced frontier scout who is haunted by his past and searching for a man named Breck Coleman (Sidney Poitier) who he believes killed his wife. Along the way, he rescues Ellen Grange (Bibi Andersson) from attacking Apaches and returns her to her husband, Willard Grange (Dennis Weaver), who is leading a wagon train of settlers to California.

Also in the group is Toller (Bill Travers), a horse trader and former member of the Buffalo Soldiers, and a young boy named Jamie (Ralph Nelson Jr.), who becomes attached to Jess. As they travel through the Arizona desert, they encounter various obstacles, including hostile Native Americans and treacherous terrain.

When they become trapped in a canyon by Chata (John Hoyt), an Apache chief seeking revenge for the death of his son, Willard is captured and brutally tortured by Chata and his men. Jess sets out to find reinforcements, but it becomes clear that the enemy is closer than anyone realizes.

The film features some intense action scenes, including a horse stampede and a daring rescue mission, as well as themes of revenge, betrayal, and redemption. The performances by the cast are strong, particularly Garner as the brooding and haunted hero and Poitier as the enigmatic and complex Breck Coleman. Overall, Duel at Diablo is a well-made and engaging Western that offers plenty of excitement and emotional depth.
