Dreamer: Inspired By a True Story is a 2005 American drama film directed by John Gatins and starring Kurt Russell, Dakota Fanning, and Elisabeth Shue. The movie is based on the true story of racehorse Mariah's Storm, who suffered a career-ending injury but went on to produce a successful foal, Storm Cat, who became a noted stallion.

In the movie, Ben Crane (Russell) is a horse trainer who has fallen on hard times. He works for a wealthy owner, Palmer (David Morse), who is focused solely on winning races. When a promising filly named Sonya breaks her leg during a race, Palmer orders her to be euthanized, but Ben sees potential in the horse and convinces Palmer to let him take her home and care for her.

Ben and his daughter Cale (Fanning) nurse the horse back to health, but they soon realize that Sonya will never be able to race again. Nevertheless, they become attached to her and decide to train her for other equestrian competitions. With the help of veteran jockey Manolin (Freddy Rodriguez) and a supportive community, Sonya makes a remarkable comeback and defies the odds to achieve success in a high-stakes race.

Along the way, Ben and Cale learn important lessons about perseverance, dedication, and the power of hope. The film was well-received for its heartwarming story and strong performances, especially by Fanning, who was praised for her portrayal of Cale.
