In the movie Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury, Hiccup and his friends are preparing for the Snoggletog festival, where they exchange gifts and celebrate the winter season. All the dragons in Berk are also excited, but soon they mysteriously start leaving the town one by one, leaving everyone confused and worried.
Hiccup's dragon Toothless is the only one who remains, but he seems unhappy and restless without the other dragons. Hiccup, recognizing the special bond Toothless shares with the other dragons, decides to build a new prosthetic tail for him that will allow him to fly without any assistance.
However, when Toothless tries to fly with the new prosthetic, he takes off, leaving Hiccup behind. Hiccup eventually follows Toothless and discovers that the dragons have migrated to a hidden, fire-breathing island that appears every 12 years on Snoggletog.
Hiccup and his friends soon realize that the dragons migrate to this island because they are trying to protect their eggs from the harsh winter weather. Hiccup understands the importance of the dragons and their bond with Toothless, freeing them to return to Berk for the festival.
The movie ends with all the dragons and Berk citizens coming together to celebrate the Snoggletog festival, with Toothless sporting a new, more powerful tail designed by Hiccup.
