Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow is a British film based on the novel of the same name by Russell Thorndike. The movie is set in the late 18th century in the coastal village of Dymchurch, Kent, England. The village is suffering from the tyranny of the king's tax collectors and the local smugglers are constantly at odds with them.
Dr. Syn (played by Patrick McGoohan) is a respected vicar of the village who, in secret, assumes the role of the Scarecrow at night to fight against the tax collectors. He dresses in a terrifying scarecrow costume and rides a black stallion to scare off the taxmen and protect the locals.
The story takes a dramatic turn when the king sends an experienced and ruthless army captain to Dymchurch to capture the smugglers and the Scarecrow. Dr. Syn must then rally his fellow smugglers to fight against the captain and protect the village from the king's forces.
The film features stunning cinematography and production design that transports the viewer back to the 18th century. The characters are richly developed, and the plot is filled with twists and turns that keep the viewers engaged until the very end.
