Dr. Anton Phibes, a master of music and medicine, had enacted a gruesome revenge on those he held responsible for the death of his wife years before. However, despite his elaborate plans, he found himself unable to bring her back to life. Now, several years later, Dr. Phibes has returned from his assumed death and is seeking the Scrolls of Life, a mystical artifact that he believes will grant him the power to resurrect his wife.
Joined by his loyal assistant Vulnavia, Dr. Phibes travels to Egypt, where the Scrolls are said to be located. However, he soon discovers he is not the only one searching for the artifact. A rival group of treasure hunters, led by the beautiful Diana is also after the Scrolls, and they stop at nothing to claim them.
Dr. Phibes, using his skills in engineering and music, creates an elaborate plan to retrieve the Scrolls and defeat his enemies. Along the way, he faces challenges such as deadly traps, fierce animals, and even a mummy that comes to life.
Despite all the obstacles, Dr. Phibes and Vulnavia eventually obtain the Scrolls and return to England. However, when Dr. Phibes attempts to resurrect his wife, he finds that he has been tricked, and the scrolls contain only a curse that brings about his ultimate downfall.
In the end, Dr. Phibes' quest for revenge and love proves to be his undoing, and he perishes along with the chance to bring his beloved wife back to life.
