Dr. Jekyll, a well-respected scientist in Victorian London, becomes obsessed with the idea that within every person there are both good and evil tendencies. He believes that if he can isolate and control these opposing forces, he can create a better society.
To this end, Jekyll develops a potion that transforms him into the depraved and wicked Mr. Hyde. Initially, Jekyll is able to maintain his sanity and control over Hyde, but as time goes on, the impulses and desires of Hyde become increasingly difficult to control.
Hyde begins to take over Jekyll's life, committing heinous acts and engaging in violent and debauched behavior. Jekyll's friends and loved ones become increasingly concerned as they witness the transformation of their once-respected colleague into a monstrous figure.
As Jekyll struggles to contain Hyde and regain control of his life, he discovers that the potion is becoming less effective, and that he may not be able to reverse the damage he has done.
In the end, Jekyll is consumed by his alter ego, and the film ends with the implication that Hyde will continue to wreak havoc on Victorian London.
