Down in the Valley is a 2005 independent film directed by David Jacobson and starring Evan Rachel Wood, Edward Norton, and David Morse. The movie is set in San Fernando Valley, California, and follows the story of Tobe, a rebellious teenage girl who is often at odds with her strict father, Wade.

On a day trip to the beach with her younger brother Lonnie, Tobe meets Harlan, a charismatic stranger who claims to be a former ranch hand. Harlan is handsome, charming, and dresses like a cowboy. Tobe is instantly drawn to him, and the two start a passionate and intense relationship.

As Tobe and Harlan's relationship deepens, Tobe's father becomes increasingly suspicious of Harlan's motives. Wade is a lawman who dutifully enforces the law and sees Harlan's behavior as unpredictable and erratic. He warns Tobe against seeing Harlan, but Tobe is convinced that her father is overreacting.

Harlan becomes more and more erratic, and Tobe starts to see his true colors. She begins to realize that he is not who he claims to be and that his stories are just fabrications. Tobe's relationship with Harlan becomes more dangerous, and she starts to question her own judgment.

In the end, Tobe must make some difficult decisions about her future and her relationship with Harlan, and Wade must come to terms with his own mistakes. Down in the Valley is a thought-provoking and emotional movie about the dangers of falling in love with mysterious strangers and learning to trust your instincts.
