Doula

Comedy  United States of America

The couple, Liz and Matt, are preparing for the birth of their first child when their trusted midwife unexpectedly dies. Scrambling to find a replacement, they stumble upon her son, Cole, who is a free-spirited and laid-back doula. Despite being initially wary of a non-traditional doula, Liz and Matt hire Cole on the basis of his mother's glowing recommendations and his own reassuring demeanor.

As Cole moves into their home to provide 24/7 care, Liz begins to warm up to his unconventional methods, like using herbal remedies and meditation to help her through labor. Meanwhile, Matt becomes increasingly skeptical of Cole's approach and worries that Liz is putting too much trust in him. As tensions rise and the birth looms closer, Liz and Matt must navigate their own doubts and anxieties, as well as the unexpected challenges that arise during delivery.

Doula is a heartwarming and humorous exploration of childbirth, parenthood, and the bonds that form between a caregiver and their clients. With nuanced performances and a compassionate script, the film offers a fresh perspective on the rigors and rewards of bringing new life into the world.
