The investigation into their disappearance uncovered a complex web of religious beliefs, including Lori's association with a doomsday cult. Her fifth husband, Chad Daybell, was also implicated in the case and later arrested.
The movie portrays Lori Vallow as a devout member of the cult, who believed that the end of the world was imminent and that her children were "zombies" who had been possessed by evil spirits.
