Donkey Skin is a French fairy tale movie directed by Jacques Demy. The story revolves around a beautiful princess who lives with her loving father, the king. The princess is so beautiful that her father, the king, is obsessed with her and wants to marry her, despite her objections.
The princess turns to her fairy godmother for help, and the fairy godmother suggests that she disguise herself as a poor donkey skin servant so that her father will not recognize her. The princess reluctantly agrees, and with the help of her fairy godmother, she transforms herself into a servant.
The princess takes on the role of a servant in the palace and soon catches the eye of the prince from a neighboring kingdom. The prince is immediately smitten with the servant girl, not realizing that she is actually the princess he has heard so much about.
As the prince and the "servant girl" fall in love, the king continues to search for a bride for himself and orders a ball to be held for all the eligible women in the kingdom. The servant girl is able to attend the ball, still in her donkey skin disguise, and dances with the prince. As the night goes on, the prince begins to suspect that the servant girl is actually the princess he has been looking for.
In the end, the prince and the princess are able to be together, and the king realizes the error of his ways and allows the two to be married. The fairy godmother is happy to have helped the princess find her true love and live happily ever after.
