Doghouse is a horror-comedy movie released in 2009, directed by Jake West. The movie features a group of middle-aged men who plan a weekend getaway to the countryside to help one of their friends, Vince, who is going through a divorce. The group of six friends includes Neil, Matt, Patrick, Graham, Mikey, and Vince; each with various levels of marital issues, job-related stress, and personal insecurities.
Unbeknownst to them, the small town they are visiting is populated almost entirely by women, and not just any women, but zombie-like creatures who have been infected by a virus known as the "ferox" outbreak. To make matters worse, the virus only affects women, so the men realize they are in far more danger than they anticipated.
The group of friends initially find the situation amusing since they believe their mid-life crises were at an all-time high; however, they soon realize that their survival depends on them setting aside their differences and working together. As they fight their way through the town, they begin to rediscover their confidence, strength, bravery, and above all, their friendship.
As the group of men begins to unravel the mysteries of this ferox virus, they realize that the virus affects women who are unhappy or contending with their love lives, leaving them vulnerable to this infection that turns them into violent and savage monsters.
The humorous banter of the male characters coupled with the classic slasher movie tropes and the gross-out gore make Doghouse a rare horror-comedy gem.
