Doctor Mordrid is a 1992 sci-fi/fantasy film directed by Charles and Albert Band. The film stars Jeffrey Combs as Doctor Anton Mordrid, a powerful sorcerer who has been sent to Earth to uphold the balance between good and evil. He has taken up residence in an apartment in New York City and spends his days studying ancient texts and practicing his magic.
Meanwhile, an evil sorcerer named Kabal (played by Brian Thompson) has arrived in New York with his army of demons. Kabal is seeking the Philosopher's Stone, a powerful artifact that will allow him to open a portal to an alternate dimension where he can rule as a god.
Doctor Mordrid discovers Kabal's plot and realizes that he is the only one who can stop him. With the help of his faithful ally Samantha (played by Yvette Nipar), a scientist who has befriended him, Doctor Mordrid sets out to stop Kabal and his demons from taking over the world.
As Doctor Mordrid and Kabal engage in a magical battle, it becomes clear that only one of them will survive. In the end, Doctor Mordrid prevails and the world is once again safe from the forces of evil.
The film was originally intended to be a standalone feature, but due to financial difficulties, it was repurposed as a pilot for a potential TV series that never materialized. Despite this, Doctor Mordrid has developed a cult following among fans of sci-fi/fantasy and is considered a classic of the genre.
