Djinn

Horror  United Arab Emirates

Djinn is a 2013 supernatural horror film directed by Tobe Hooper and written by David Tully. The film follows newlyweds Khalid and Salama as they move into a luxurious high-rise apartment complex in Abu Dhabi. However, upon their arrival, they begin to experience strange occurrences and frightening paranormal activity.

As their fears intensify, they discover that the complex was built on the site of an abandoned fishing village, Al Hamra, which is said to be haunted by malevolent spirits known as djinns. The djinns, it is revealed, are angry and vengeful because they were displaced from their homes and land by the construction of the modern building.

As the couple becomes more entangled in the supernatural events, they realize that they must confront the djinns and put an end to their haunting once and for all. Along the way, they uncover a dark conspiracy involving a corrupt developer who will stop at nothing to cover up his misdeeds.

Djinn is a chilling tale that explores the theme of cultural displacement and the belief in the supernatural. It features stunning cinematography that captures the beauty and mystique of Abu Dhabi, as well as unsettling sound design and eerie visual effects that heighten the tension and suspense. Despite mixed reviews, Djinn is a haunting and unforgettable horror experience that will stay with viewers long after the credits roll.
