In the beginning of the movie, the stooges Moe, Larry, and Curly are shown working as carpenters who unintentionally cause chaos at a construction site. As a result, they lose their jobs and decide to become policemen.
Meanwhile, a burglar dressed in a gorilla suit is wreaking havoc around the city and stealing valuable antiques. The police are unable to catch him and Mr. Dill, the head of the citizens league, threatens to have the police chief fired for his incompetence.
The three stooges are given the task of solving the case and go undercover as night watchmen at an antiques store where they suspect the burglar will strike next. While on duty, they encounter the gorilla burglar and engage in a comical fight scene.
After the stooges manage to capture the gorilla, they unmask him to reveal that it was actually a real gorilla owned by Mr. Dill, who had trained the animal to steal the antiques. The stooges confront Mr. Dill and a gang of other criminals in an explosive finale where the gorilla accidentally drinks nitroglycerin and blows up.
