In addition to Joana's involvement with the Divino Amor group, she also utilizes a futuristic technology called “Divine Love,” which enables couples to experience a virtual reality-compatible version of one another to increase their intimacy. However, her efforts to help others with their marriages often lead to her questioning her own beliefs and relationship with her husband.
As she becomes more involved with the group and its practices, Joana begins to experience a crisis of faith and a desire for something more meaningful in her life. This is further compounded by her growing attraction to a couple seeking a divorce, as well as a group of rebels who resist the oppressive government and religious regimes in power.
As she navigates these conflicting emotions and desires, Joana must ultimately confront her own beliefs and sense of identity in order to find fulfillment and purpose in her life.
