Divergent is a 2014 American dystopian science fiction action film directed by Neil Burger, based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Veronica Roth. The film stars Shailene Woodley as Beatrice "Tris" Prior, a young woman who discovers that she is Divergent, meaning she does not fit into any one of the five factions that divide society based on individual virtues: Abnegation (selflessness), Amity (peacefulness), Candor (honesty), Dauntless (bravery), and Erudite (intelligence).

As Tris embarks on her journey to find her true identity, she uncovers a conspiracy led by the Erudite faction's leader, Jeanine (Kate Winslet), to eliminate all Divergents in order to maintain their strict social order. Tris must team up with Four (Theo James), a seasoned member of the Dauntless faction, to uncover the truth behind the plot and save herself and others like her from certain death.

Throughout the film, Tris faces various challenges and obstacles as she navigates her way through a dangerous and divided society, ultimately coming to terms with her own strengths and the power of her identity as a Divergent. The film was met with mixed reviews, but was a commercial success, grossing over $288 million worldwide. It was followed by two sequels, Insurgent (2015) and Allegiant (2016).
