Steve Clark is a troubled teenager who moves to the seemingly idyllic town of Cradle Bay with his family. As he tries to adjust to his new school and surroundings, he begins to notice that his classmates are all part of a group known as the "Blue Ribbons." The Blue Ribbons are known for their impeccable grades, clean living and overall excellence in every aspect of their lives.
Steve quickly realizes that something is not right with the Blue Ribbons. They seem too perfect, too robotic. He watches as they are conditioned to conform to a strict set of behavior guidelines, and those who stray from the group are quickly punished. Steve is especially concerned when his best friend Gavin suddenly becomes a member of the Blue Ribbons, seeming like a completely different person.
Steve begins to work with Rachel, another outsider, to uncover the truth behind the Blue Ribbons and what is really going on in Cradle Bay. Their investigation uncovers a sinister plot by the town's adults, who are using a process called "behavior modification" to brainwash their children into becoming perfect citizens. When Steve and Rachel uncover the truth, they become the targets of the town's adult leaders and must fight to survive and expose the conspiracy.
Disturbing Behavior is a thriller that explores themes of conformity, control and rebellion. It stars James Marsden as Steve Clark, Katie Holmes as Rachel, and Nick Stahl as Gavin. The film was directed by David Nutter and was released in 1998.
