Dishonored is a 1931 American pre-Code spy film directed by Josef von Sternberg and starring Marlene Dietrich. The film takes place during World War I, and follows a seductive Austrian spy named X-27 (played by Dietrich) as she is sent by the Austrian Secret Service to infiltrate and sabotage the Russian military efforts.
As X-27 carries out her mission, she meets and seduces a Russian military officer named Captain Kranau (played by Victor McLaglen). The two fall in love, putting both of their loyalties and missions at risk.
As X-27 and Kranau's relationship deepens, the suspicious Russian military command begins to suspect that there is a spy in their midst. X-27 must navigate her way through shifting allegiances and dangerous situations to complete her mission and protect the man she loves.
Dishonored features von Sternberg's signature lush, atmospheric visuals and Dietrich's captivating performance as a femme fatale. The film received mixed reviews upon its release, but has since become a classic example of early Hollywood espionage films.
