Mirjam is a young woman living in a small town in the Netherlands. She is a devoted member of her church and a talented freestyle disco dancer. Mirjam's mother is also a fanatically religious person who controls every aspect of her daughter's life, from what she eats to who she spends time with.
As the film progresses, Mirjam begins to feel the pressure of her intense upbringing, both from her strict mother and from her demanding dance coach. At the world championships, she collapses on stage after a particularly strenuous routine and is rushed to the hospital. The doctors tell her that her body is shutting down and that she needs to take a break from dancing.
Unwilling to give up her passion, Mirjam turns to her faith for answers. Her family encourages her to focus more on God, believing that this will help her cope with her physical and emotional struggles. But as she delves deeper into her faith, Mirjam begins to feel increasingly stifled by the strict rules and regulations of her church.
