Discarded Things is a heartwarming and insightful drama film that follows the story of Grace Wyatt (Lynn Whitfield), a highly regarded music professor who teaches at a prestigious university. Grace's life is turned upside down when tragedy strikes and she loses her husband and son in a car accident. As a result, Grace plunges into a deep depression and is forced to take a sabbatical from teaching.

When Grace returns to work, she finds that she has been demoted from her position as a professor to a mere music instructor for at-risk youth. Reluctantly, Grace begins teaching a group of troubled teens who are disengaged and uninterested in music. As time goes on, Grace starts to connect with her students and realizes that music may be the key to helping them heal and transform their lives.

Throughout the movie, we see Grace struggle with her grief and overcome the challenges of working with disadvantaged youth. She is supported by her newfound friend Ruth (Karen Abercrombie) and her colleague Thomas (Hannah Masterson), who have also faced their share of personal tragedies. Along the way, Grace learns to let go of her past and find new purpose and meaning in her life.
