Amar is a successful journalist who works for All India Radio. He is assigned to cover the upcoming elections in Assam. During his trip, he meets Meghna, a mysterious and enigmatic woman. Amar is instantly attracted to her and tries to get close to her, but Meghna remains distant and does not reciprocate his feelings.
Despite Meghna's reluctance, Amar finds himself falling deeper in love with her as their paths cross again and again. However, he cannot seem to break through the walls she has built around herself.
Eventually, Amar returns to Delhi and meets Preeti, a woman from a wealthy family, who he agrees to marry. Just as Amar is about to tie the knot, Meghna suddenly appears at his doorstep, seeking his help. She reveals that she is a member of a militant group that is planning to carry out a major attack on Independence Day.
Amar is torn between his love for Meghna and his loyalty to his country. He must decide whether to help Meghna escape or turn her over to the authorities. As the clock ticks down to Independence Day, Amar must navigate a complex web of love, loyalty, and political intrigue to prevent a catastrophe.
The film, directed by Mani Ratnam, stars Shah Rukh Khan as Amar, Manisha Koirala as Meghna, and Preity Zinta as Preeti. The music, composed by A.R. Rahman, was a huge hit and included songs like "Chaiyya Chaiyya" and "Jiya Jale." Dil Se.. released in 1998 and was both a critical and commercial success. It is now considered a cult classic and is widely regarded as one of the best Indian films of all time.
