Die Hard 2, also known as Die Hard 2: Die Harder, is a 1990 American action thriller film directed by Renny Harlin. The film stars Bruce Willis as John McClane, a New York City police detective who battles terrorists who have taken control of Washington Dulles International Airport.
The film opens with McClane waiting for his wife Holly to arrive at Dulles Airport on Christmas Eve. As he waits at the airport bar, he spots suspicious activity and realizes that a group of terrorists are taking over the airport.
The leader of the terrorists, Colonel Stuart (played by William Sadler), is a former US Army Special Forces officer who wants to extract a South American drug lord named Ramon Esperanza from the airport. Stuart and his team disable the airport's communication and navigation systems, making it impossible for anyone to contact the outside world.
McClane starts to investigate and ends up in a series of cat-and-mouse games with the terrorists. Meanwhile, Holly's plane is running low on fuel and is unable to land safely. McClane must simultaneously rescue the hostages, stop the terrorists, and save Holly and her fellow passengers.
Along the way, McClane is aided by airport police officer Carmine Lorenzo (played by Dennis Franz), who initially clashes with McClane but eventually becomes his ally. McClane also reunites with his old friend, Sergeant Al Powell (played by Reginald VelJohnson), who provides remote support from his home in Los Angeles.
The film features numerous action set pieces, including a gunfight on the airport runway, a helicopter chase, and a climactic showdown between McClane and Stuart on the wing of an airplane.
Die Hard 2 was a commercial success, grossing over $240 million worldwide. It received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the film's action sequences and Willis' performance, while others criticized its formulaic plot and lack of originality compared to the original Die Hard.
