Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star is a 2003 comedy film directed by Sam Weisman and starring David Spade. The film follows the story of Dickie Roberts, a former child star who was famous for his role in a popular TV sitcom called "The Glimmer Gang" during the 1970s. However, as he grew older, he struggled to find work as an actor and ended up working as a valet car parker.
Desperate to get back into the limelight and revive his career, Dickie decides to audition for a role in a Steven Spielberg movie. However, during the audition, the director tells him that he lacks experience in living a normal life and being a regular person. Dickie realizes that he never had a proper childhood, as he was always working and being treated like an adult.
So, Dickie hires a typical American family that has a son around the age he was during his TV show to help him relive his childhood experiences and learn how to be a regular person. The family includes a mother, Grace Finney, and her sons, Sam and Sally.
The film has several hilarious moments throughout, as Dickie tries to acclimate himself to normal kids' lives by going to school, attending a birthday party, and playing in a little league game. Along the way, he also learns about the true meaning of friendship and family as he becomes close to Grace and her family.
The film ends with a heartwarming scene where Dickie reconciles with his estranged parents and finally lands the role in Spielberg's movie, thanks to the valuable lessons he learned about life.
