Dev.D is a modern-day adaptation of the classic novel Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The movie is directed by Anurag Kashyap and is known for its bold and unconventional approach towards storytelling.
The movie revolves around the life of Dev, who is a spoilt and privileged young man living in Delhi. His life takes a turn when he falls in love with Paro, his childhood friend. However, due to a misunderstanding, Dev rejects Paro's love and leaves her heartbroken. Dev turns to drugs and alcohol to numb his pain.
Paro moves on and gets married, leaving Dev who still pines for her. Dev meets Chanda, a young and vulnerable prostitute, and finds solace in her company. However, their relationship is complicated by Dev's addiction and Chanda's past trauma.
Dev's life spirals out of control as he becomes more and more addicted to drugs and alcohol. He also gets involved with sleazy characters like Chunni, a pimp who exploits Chanda for his own gain. Dev's relationship with Chanda is strained as he struggles to come to terms with his own demons.
The movie features powerful performances by Abhay Deol, who plays Dev, and Mahie Gill, who plays Chanda. The soundtrack of the film, composed by Amit Trivedi, is considered one of the best in recent times. The movie has received critical acclaim and is considered a cult classic in Indian cinema.
