Despicable Me follows the story of Gru, a supervillain who dreams of being the greatest villain in the world. Gru lives in a gloomy house with his minions and his scientist friend, Dr. Nefario. One day, Gru discovers that a rival villain named Vector has stolen the Great Pyramid of Giza, and is planning to steal the moon next.
Determined to beat Vector to the punch, Gru comes up with a plan to shrink and steal the moon. In order to do so, he needs to obtain a shrink ray, which is being held in a top-secret facility. In order to gain access to the facility, Gru adopts three orphan girls named Margo, Edith, and Agnes, under the guise of selling cookies for a fake orphanage.
As Gru struggles to keep up his villainous persona while also raising the three girls, he begins to develop a soft spot for them. Meanwhile, Vector discovers Gru's plan and steals the shrink ray for himself. Gru, with the help of the girls and his minions, sets out to steal the moon and save the day.
Despicable Me is a heartwarming and humorous film that ultimately teaches the value of family and the power of love. The movie spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs, including Despicable Me 2, Minions, and Despicable Me 3.
