Desperate Hours is a 1990 thriller film directed by Michael Cimino and starring Mickey Rourke, Anthony Hopkins, and Mimi Rogers.
The storyline follows the charismatic and cunning career criminal Michael Bosworth (Mickey Rourke) as he and his gang of fugitives – his brother, girlfriend, and an unpredictable gunman – break into the suburban home of the affluent Hilliard family, holding them hostage. The family consists of the successful businessman Tim Hilliard (Anthony Hopkins), his wife Nora (Mimi Rogers), and their teenage daughter, May (Kelly Lynch).
As the Hilliards struggle to deal with their captors, they depend on Tim's resourcefulness to keep them alive. Meanwhile, the police under the leadership of a seasoned detective, Lt. Hayden (Lindsay Crouse), attempt to thwart Bosworth and his accomplices as they make their escape across the Midwest.
Desperate Hours is an intense thriller that explores themes of power, control, and desperation. It is a remake of the 1955 film of the same name starring Humphrey Bogart, adapted from the novel by Joseph Hayes, which was inspired by the real-life kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby.
