The film begins with a flashback of three best friends, Derek, Jake, and Emily, in high school. They were inseparable and had big plans to conquer the world together. Fast forward to present day, and things have drastically changed. Derek has passed away, and his dying wish was for Jake and Emily to spread his ashes across a mountain range that he loved.
Jake and Emily cannot stand each other, but they reluctantly agree to fulfill Derek's final request. They both have their reasons for disliking each other, from betrayals to jealousy over Derek's affections. As they embark on their journey, they bicker and argue constantly, even throwing Derek's urn back and forth in frustration.
As they make their way up the mountain, they encounter a series of obstacles that force them to rely on each other. They get lost, get into physical altercations, and even have to spend a freezing night together in a rundown cabin. Through it all, they start to realize that Derek's death has affected them in ways they didn't expect.
When they finally reach the top of the mountain, they scatter Derek's ashes and have a heart-to-heart conversation about their feelings towards each other and their regrets about their friendship falling apart. They leave the mountain as different people, with a newfound sense of closure and willingness to forgive each other.
The film ends with a flashback of Derek smiling at his friends on the mountain, content in knowing that he brought them back together one last time.
