The movie follows the life of Monica Chowdry, who became a National Spelling Bee champion 15 years ago. However, life after her win hasn't quite been what she expected. Monica is struggling with her personal life and career, unable to find a sense of purpose or direction. She is haunted by the pressure of her past success, which has made it difficult for her to form new relationships in her present.
Things take a turn when Monica's estranged older brother, Sonny, returns home to help care for their ailing mother. Their relationship has always been fraught with tension, and Monica has always felt overshadowed by Sonny's magnetic presence. Their reunion forces Monica to confront the root of their longstanding conflict and to reassess her own goals and aspirations.
In the midst of this family drama, Monica is also dealing with career setbacks and an uncertain future. She is forced to navigate the challenges of being a woman of color in a predominantly white industry while also grappling with the implications of her past achievements. Through it all, Monica must find a way to reconcile with her brother and find her own path forward.
