Deep Evil is a science fiction horror movie directed by Pat Williams and released in 2004. The movie begins with a spaceship sent from a distant planet crashing into Siberia in the 1950s. The crash releases a deadly alien microbe that begins to infect and kill local wildlife.
Cut to the present day, and we are introduced to a team of scientists working at a top-secret underground lab in Alaska. The lab is tasked with cloning the alien microbe to create a new bio-weapon. However, when a garbled distress signal is heard from the lab, a team of scientists and military personnel is dispatched to the facility to find out what went wrong.
As the team descends into the underground lab, they discover that the cloned microbe has mutated and is now capable of infecting humans. The team must navigate the lab's various levels, evading deadly booby traps and fighting off infected lab workers, in order to stop the microbe from spreading to the outside world.
Along the way, the team learns that the microbe's original purpose was not as a bio-weapon, but rather as a way for an advanced alien race to gather genetic information from other species. The microbe's deadly effects were a side-effect of its collection process.
As the team is picked off one by one, they realize that they may be facing not only the mutated microbe but also an alien intelligence that is determined to complete its mission at any cost.
In the end, the surviving members of the team manage to destroy the microbe's collection hub and escape the lab before it self-destructs. However, the alien intelligence responsible for the microbe's creation escapes, leaving the possibility of a sequel open.
