Dr. Emma Collins and her team, which includes her boyfriend and engineer, Lucas, and her assistants, Leslie and Shaw, have been studying the great white sharks that come to the island of Little Happy to give birth. However, their research is interrupted when a new team, led by Emma's ex-boyfriend Richard, arrives on the island with the intention of capturing and studying bull sharks.
Emma and her team are initially skeptical of Richard's intentions, especially when he reveals that he is working for a pharmaceutical company that wants to use the sharks for medical research. As they watch Richard and his team dive into the ocean to capture the sharks, they soon realize that these are not normal bull sharks.
The sharks appear to be highly intelligent and are able to work together to outsmart and kill Richard's team. Emma and her team soon realize that the sharks have been genetically modified with a substance called "apex", which has enhanced their intelligence and aggression.
As the sharks continue to hunt down the humans on the island, Emma and her team must find a way to stop them before they destroy everything in their path. With the help of the last two inhabitants of the island and their own scientific expertise, they devise a plan to take down the genetically modified sharks and save themselves and the great white sharks they've been studying.
