After the death of his girlfriend in Los Angeles, Paul Kersey returns to New York City, only to find that his old neighborhood has become a warzone. A vicious gang known as the "Giggler Gang" is terrorizing the area, taking over apartment buildings and brutally attacking anyone who stands in their way.
Kersey is soon recruited by the local police chief, who is in fact a corrupt official working with the gang. The chief offers Kersey a deal: help him take down the Giggler Gang and in return, he will turn a blind eye to Kersey's vigilante activities.
Kersey begins to clean up the neighborhood, taking on the gang members one by one. He is joined in his fight by a group of elderly residents who have also had enough of the gang's violence.
As Kersey's war against the gang intensifies, the police chief becomes increasingly paranoid and desperate to stop him. In the climactic final battle, Kersey and his allies face off against the entire gang, leading to a bloody and violent showdown.
Ultimately, Kersey is successful in taking down the gang and restoring order to the neighborhood. However, he knows that the fight against crime is ongoing and that he will never be able to fully escape his vigilante lifestyle.
