The movie is set in Montreal and tells the story of Samuel O'Shea, a womanizing, alcoholic college professor who is struggling with alcoholism, depression, and a recent divorce. Samuel's life takes an unexpected turn when he starts to see surreal hallucinations of his deceased father, who urges him to make amends with his family and come to terms with his imminent death.

As Samuel navigates his new reality, he begins to reconnect with his estranged wife, Catherine, and their two daughters. Along the way, he also has a series of flings and relationships with various women in his life. Meanwhile, Catherine is grappling with her own demons, including a successful career as a writer but ongoing struggles with mental illness.

As Samuel's health deteriorates, his hallucinations become more intense, and he begins to question his own sanity. Ultimately, he is forced to confront his past mistakes and make peace with those around him before it's too late. The film is a surreal, introspective character study that explores themes of family, love, and mortality.
