Death of a Cheerleader, also known as A Friend to Die For, is a made-for-TV movie that originally aired in 1994. The movie stars Kellie Martin as Angela Delvecchio, a popular and ambitious high school student who wants to be part of the school's elite social circle.
When Angela is repeatedly rejected by the popular girls, she becomes obsessed with winning their approval. She finally thinks she has succeeded when she befriends Stacy Lockwood (Tori Spelling), one of the most popular girls in school.
However, Stacy's friendship with Angela is short-lived as she quickly becomes annoyed by Angela's constant need for attention and validation. Eventually, Stacy tells Angela that she no longer wants to be friends.
Enraged by Stacy's rejection, Angela begins to plot her revenge. She befriends a troubled classmate named Brandi Blackbear (Valerie Harper) and convinces her to help her carry out her plan to harm Stacy.
Things take a dark turn when Angela and Brandi attack Stacy in her home, ultimately leading to her death. The horrific crime shocks the community and Angela is ultimately caught and put on trial for her actions.
Death of a Cheerleader is based on a true story and tells a cautionary tale about the dangers of obsession and the high price of popularity.
