In Death Note: The Last Name, Light continues to use the Death Note to rid the world of criminals and as his alter ego Kira, he gains the attention of the enigmatic detective known as L. The two engage in a cat-and-mouse game of strategy and deduction, each trying to outsmart the other and emerge as the victor.
Meanwhile, Misa Amane, a popular model and actress, becomes a second Kira and uses her own Death Note to help Light in his mission. Misa is fiercely loyal to Kira, believing him to be a hero who is cleaning up the streets of criminals.
As the story progresses, Light becomes increasingly ruthless and manipulative, willing to do whatever it takes to maintain his power as Kira. He enlists the help of Teru Mikami, a prosecutor who shares his beliefs, and Kiyomi Takada, a newscaster who becomes another Kira follower.
However, L is always one step ahead, continuously making connections and gathering evidence to expose the identity of Kira. He becomes suspicious of Light and his associates, and eventually, the two engage in a dramatic confrontation.
Throughout the film, the Shinigami Rem plays a key role in the story, often appearing to offer guidance to Misa and to watch over Light's actions.
In the end, Light's hubris and arrogance prove to be his downfall as L finally uncovers his true identity. The film ends with Light's death and Ryuk, the Shinigami who initially gave him the Death Note, collecting his soul as the final page of the Death Note is filled with Light's name.
