Death Note is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It was later adapted into an anime series and a live-action film.
The main character, Light Yagami, is a high school student who discovers the Death Note, a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone whose name he writes in it. Light initially uses the notebook to kill criminals and create a utopian society free of crime.
However, his actions soon catch the attention of the public and an enigmatic detective named L, who is determined to catch the killer known only as "Kira." A game of cat and mouse ensues between Light and L, with Light using his intelligence and the Death Note to manipulate those around him and avoid detection.
As the number of deaths attributed to Kira rises, Light's god complex becomes more apparent, and he becomes increasingly ruthless in his pursuit of a perfect world. Meanwhile, L becomes more and more desperate to catch Kira, eventually resorting to extreme methods to do so.
The climax of the series sees Light and L face off in a final confrontation, with both characters using all of their cunning and intelligence to outdo the other. In the end, the true extent of Light's power, and his ultimate fate, are revealed.
