The author, Kate, and her husband, David, are excited to escape the city and start a new life in their remote cabin by the lake. However, their happiness is short-lived when Kate's former friend, Sarah, unexpectedly moves in next door.
At first, Kate is happy to reconnect with Sarah, but quickly realizes that Sarah's intentions are not genuine. Sarah becomes obsessed with Kate and begins to manipulate and terrorize the couple, trying to sabotage their relationship and drive them apart.
