The actress, named Katie McGovern, is a struggling artist who is desperate for her big break in Hollywood. She responds to a casting call for a mysterious movie audition and is invited to travel to a remote mansion in upstate New York for a screen-test. Upon arriving at the mansion, she meets the director, Mr. Murray, who is a charming and wealthy man. Katie feels suspicious about the situation, but still, she agrees to do the screen-test and receives an offer to be cast in the lead role.
As the days go by, Katie begins to discover that she is actually a prisoner in the mansion and that Mr. Murray has no intention of making a movie. Instead, he is holding her hostage, blackmailing her into playing a part in a plan to steal a large sum of money from a rich man. Katie is reluctant to go along with the plan, but she knows that her life is at risk if she does not comply.
Katie is also under the watchful eye of a mysterious woman named Julie, who seems to have a connection to Mr. Murray. Julie is cold and calculating, and Katie becomes more and more unnerved by her presence. Along the way, she uncovers some secrets about Mr. Murray's past, including his abusive behavior towards his former wife, who died in the mansion.
As the plan to steal the money progresses, Katie decides that she must find a way to escape from the mansion before it's too late. Her only ally is a kind-hearted chauffeur named Rob, who sympathizes with her plight. Together, they hatch a plan to rescue Katie from the clutches of Mr. Murray and his accomplices. Will they succeed, or will Katie meet a grisly end in the dead of winter?
