Dead & Buried is a horror film released in 1981 directed by Gary Sherman, written by Ronald Shusett and Dan O'Bannon. The film follows the story of a small coastal town called Potter's Bluff, where a series of murders has been taking place. The townsfolk seem to be in cahoots with the killer as the tourists who visit the town are killed, and their bodies are burned alive.
The local sheriff, played by James Farentino, investigates the murders and eventually uncovers the shocking truth that the townspeople are behind the killings. They are led by the town's mortician, played by Jack Albertson, who is reanimating the deceased visitors as "zombies" and integrating them into the town's community as if they were alive.
This shocking discovery is only the beginning of the horror, as the seemingly "rehabilitated" corpses begin to exhibit violent and murderous behavior. The sheriff races against time to save himself and his wife, who has been abducted and subject to the mortician's experimentations.
Dead & Buried is known for its suspenseful storyline, gory special effects, and impressive cast. The film received mixed reviews upon its release but has since gained a cult following.
