The DC Showcase: Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth! is an animated short film based on the comic book character Kamandi created by Jack Kirby for DC Comics. The film is directed by Matt Peters and written by Paul Giacoppo.
In the film, Kamandi, Prince Tuftan, and Ben Boxer find themselves in a post-apocalyptic world where animals have evolved to take on human form. They are captured by a group of gorillas who believe that Kamandi is the reincarnation of their god, The Mighty One. The gorillas worship The Mighty One and believe that he will lead them to a promised land.
Golgan, the leader of the cult, is determined to find out if Kamandi knows the secret of The Mighty One. He puts Kamandi, Prince Tuftan, and Ben Boxer through a series of deadly tests, hoping to uncover the truth. As they face each challenge, they discover hidden truths about themselves and each other.
The animation style of the film pays homage to Jack Kirby’s original artwork for Kamandi. The film also features the voice talents of actors such as Dee Bradley Baker, Roger Craig Smith, and Fred Tatasciore.
