Phil and Claire Foster are a married couple living in the suburbs of New Jersey with their two children. They both work long hours and are struggling to keep the spark alive in their relationship. One night, they decide to spice things up by going into the city for their weekly date night.
They arrive at a fancy restaurant but are told there are no available tables. Seeing another couple that wasn't turned away, they take their reservation under the name “Tripplehorn”. At the restaurant, they are mistaken for a couple called the Tripplehorns, who are involved in a dangerous underworld of corruption and crime. Suddenly, a pair of thugs approach them, demanding they hand over a flash drive that the Tripplehorns stole from a notorious mob boss named Joe Miletto.
Thinking it’s all just a crazy mix up, Phil and Claire try to explain to the thugs that they are not the Tripplehorns. But when they continue to be threatened, they run and steal Miletto’s car, leading to a series of wild and dangerous escapades as they try to clear their names and get the flash drive back.
Along the way, they encounter corrupt cops, a sultry district attorney and other characters all determined to stop them. Through it all, Phil and Claire attempt to rediscover the passion and excitement in their relationship, as they race through New York City, dodging bullets, car chases, and crazy situations.
In the end, they succeed in retrieving the flash drive, clear their names and return to their normal suburban lives – but they have a newfound appreciation for each other and the wild adventures they shared.
