Dark River is a 2017 British drama film directed by Clio Barnard. Ruth Wilson plays Alice, a woman returning home to her family's farm in Yorkshire, England after the death of her father. Alice's brother, Joe (played by Mark Stanley), has been running the farm in their father's absence, but Alice believes she has a right to it. She fights to take control of the farm, even as she is forced to confront the traumatic events of her past.

Alice was abused by her father as a child, and her return to the farm brings back painful memories. She is also haunted by the death of her mother, who drowned in a river on the farm. As Alice struggles to take control of the farm, she must also confront her complicated relationship with Joe, who has his own struggles with the past. The siblings ultimately come to a resolution in their battle for the farm, but not without facing difficult truths about themselves and their family.

The film was praised for its atmospheric depiction of Yorkshire and its exploration of the complexities of family relationships. Wilson's performance was particularly noted, as she portrayed Alice's vulnerability and determination in equal measure.
