In the movie Dance, Girl, Dance, Judy O'Brien (played by Maureen O'Hara) is a serious and focused young ballerina who dreams of making it to the top. She is a member of a struggling dance troupe led by the demanding and difficult Madame Lydia Basilova (played by Maria Ouspenskaya). The troupe is constantly facing financial difficulties, and their performances are often poorly attended.

Bubbles (played by Lucille Ball) is another member of the troupe, but she has a very different approach to dance. Bubbles is brash, confident, and unashamedly sexy. She has no interest in the classical ballet that Judy loves; instead, she dreams of becoming a burlesque dancer. When Bubbles leaves the dance troupe to pursue her dreams, Judy is left without a job and feeling lost.

However, Bubbles soon returns and offers Judy a job as her "stooge" or comedic sidekick in her burlesque act. Judy reluctantly accepts, but she is embarrassed by the crude humor and sexual nature of the performances. Despite her misgivings, Judy becomes more and more popular with the audience, much to Bubbles' annoyance.

The two women clash when they both fall for the same man, wealthy art patron Steve Adams (played by Louis Hayward). Bubbles is attracted to Steve's money and power, while Judy is drawn to his kindness and artistic nature. The rivalry between the two women comes to a head when Bubbles intentionally tries to sabotage Judy's performance in the burlesque show.

After a rocky start, Judy eventually realizes that the burlesque stage is not where she belongs. In the climactic scene, she takes to the stage and performs a beautiful and emotional ballet routine, demonstrating her true talent and leaving the audience in awe.
