Last Stand: Walmington-on-Sea's Home Guard

Comedy  United Kingdom

The movie Dad's Army was released in 2016 as a cinema remake of the classic British sitcom of the same name. The film is set in 1944, towards the end of World War II, and focuses on the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard platoon, a group of elderly volunteers tasked with defending their seaside town against a potential German invasion.

As the Allied forces are closing in on Germany, the Home Guard platoon is shocked to learn that a German spy has infiltrated their town. Meanwhile, a visiting female journalist is causing a stir in Walmington-on-Sea, and her presence threatens to complicate matters even further.

The film stars a cast of well-known British actors, including Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring, Bill Nighy as Sergeant Wilson, Michael Gambon as Private Godfrey, and Tom Courtenay as Lance Corporal Jones. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays the role of the journalist, while Blake Harrison portrays Private Pike, the youngest member of the platoon.

The movie pays homage to the original Dad's Army sitcom, which ran on British television from 1968 to 1977, and is known for its witty humor and memorable characters. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film was a box office success and was praised for its respectful treatment of the original series.
