The movie Curse of the Crimson Altar is a 1968 horror film directed by Vernon Sewell. The film stars Christopher Lee, Boris Karloff, and Barbara Steele. The story follows Robert Manning (played by Mark Eden), a young man who travels to a remote country house to investigate the disappearance of his brother. The house is owned by Julian and Eve Morley (played by Karloff and Steele), who seem welcoming at first, but as Manning explores the house and the surrounding area, he discovers a dark and sinister history involving the Morley family and the legend of Lavinia Morley, the Black Witch of Greymarsh.
The movie is loosely based on H.P. Lovecraft's story "The Dreams in the Witch House", and features a cult that worships a deity known as the Crimson Altar. Manning becomes increasingly suspicious of the Morleys and their involvement with the cult, and must race against time to uncover the truth before he becomes the next victim. The film is known for its atmospheric cinematography and dreamlike sequences, as well as the performances of horror legends Lee and Karloff. The movie was originally released in the UK as The Crimson Cult.
