The movie Cruel Intentions is a modern-day adaptation of the novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. It's set in high society New York City and follows step-siblings Kathryn (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian (played by Ryan Phillippe) as they engage in a twisted game of seduction and manipulation.
Kathryn is a cold-hearted socialite who takes pleasure in destroying the lives of others, while Sebastian is a notorious womanizer who has never been truly in love. The two share a complicated relationship, fueled by a mutual attraction and a desire to outdo each other in their cruel games.
When Kathryn sets her sights on ruining the reputation of the innocent and naive Cecile (played by Selma Blair), Sebastian sees an opportunity to win Kathryn's affections by seducing Cecile's virtuous stepsister, Annette (played by Reese Witherspoon).
As the summer progresses, Sebastian and Kathryn's game becomes increasingly dangerous, leading to unexpected consequences and a final tragic twist.
