In Crossword Mysteries: Riddle Me Dead, Tess Harper (played by Lacey Chabert) is a crossword puzzle editor and amateur sleuth who gets invited to be a contestant on the hit game show "Riddle Me This." However, shortly after the show begins, the host is found murdered in his dressing room.
Detective Logan O'Connor (played by Brennan Elliott), who also happens to be a friend of Tess', is assigned to investigate the case. Together, they start to uncover a web of secrets and suspects that leads them to believe that the murder was not a random act.
As Tess and Logan work to solve the case, they discover that the victim had a complicated personal life that involved several people with motives for wanting him dead. Among the suspects are the game show's producer, the host's former business partner, and even one of the other contestants.
Throughout the movie, Tess and Logan must use their puzzle-solving skills to piece together clues and unravel the mystery. Along the way, they also navigate their evolving romantic feelings for each other.
